"DTF printing process: design creation, printing on film, applying powder adhesive, heat curing, and fabric transfer in Leicester, UK"

What is DTF Printing

DTF (Direct to Film) printing is a relatively new technology in the textile industry that involves printing designs onto a special film, which is then transferred onto fabric. Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works:

  1. Printing: The design is printed onto a clear PET film using special ink. This ink is typically made for DTF processes and is key to ensuring good adhesion and color vibrancy.

  2. Powder Application: After printing, an adhesive powder is applied to the wet ink on the film. This powder sticks to the ink and plays a crucial role in the transfer process.

  3. Curing: The film goes through a curing process, where it is heated to melt the adhesive powder. This creates a bond between the ink and the powder, solidifying the design in preparation for transfer.

  4. Transferring: The prepared film is then placed onto the fabric, and heat and pressure are applied through a heat press. This process transfers the ink and adhesive mixture from the film to the fabric.

  5. Final Product: After the heat press, the film is peeled off, leaving the ink design permanently adhered to the fabric.

DTF printing is highly valued for its ability to produce vibrant, full-color images that are durable and flexible. It is also versatile, capable of working with a variety of fabric types, and it doesn't require pre-treatment of the fabric like some other textile printing processes. This makes DTF a popular choice for small to medium-sized businesses and for custom garment production.
