Illustrated guide on how to press DTF transfers with heat press, featuring steps and equipment like Teflon sheet and post-press option.

How to Press DTF Transfers

Pressing DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers correctly is essential for achieving a strong, durable bond between the design and the fabric. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure optimal results:

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

  • Preheat the Heat Press: Set the temperature to about 300°F to 325°F (149°C to 163°C). The exact temperature may vary based on your specific DTF film and adhesive powder.
  • Set Pressure: Use medium to firm pressure. Too much or too little pressure can affect adhesion.

Step 2: Position the Transfer

  • Place the Garment on the Heat Press: Lay the fabric flat on the heat press platen, ensuring it’s wrinkle-free.
  • Position the DTF Transfer: Place the printed film (design side down) on the garment. Ensure it’s correctly aligned and centered as desired.

Step 3: Press the Transfer

  • Press: Close the heat press and apply pressure for about 12 to 15 seconds.
  • Peel the Film: Once pressing is complete, open the heat press and carefully peel the film away from the fabric.
  • Hot Peel: Peel the trasnfer straight away.

Step 4: Post-Press for Extra Durability (Optional)

  • Re-Press with Parchment or Teflon Sheet: For enhanced durability and a matte finish, you can re-press the design with a Teflon or parchment sheet over it for about 3 to 5 seconds at the same temperature.

Additional Tips

  • Test Settings: Always test on a sample or small area if you’re using a new type of DTF film or fabric.
  • Store Transfers Properly: Keep DTF transfers in a cool, dry place until they’re ready to press.

Following these steps will help ensure your DTF transfer has a clean, vibrant, and durable finish.
